'UP SUMMANUS!' WAS A PERFORMANCE MADE IN CHESTER, UK, IN AUTUMN 2009, AS PART OF THE 'UP THE WALL' FESTIVAL, ORGANISED BY 'CHESTER PERFORMS'.
IN A SPOTLIT ROMAN GARDEN, NEXT TO THE ROMAN WALL WHICH CIRCLES CHESTER TOWN CENTRE. AARON WILLIAMSON AND I PERFORMED TO A PASSING AUDIENCE OF HUNDREDS, FOR SEVERAL HOURS OVER TWO NIGHTS. DRESSED AS ROMAN PRIESTS, WE DANCED OUR WAY THROUGH A COMIC INVOCATION OF 'SUMMANUS', ROMAN GOD OF 'NOCTURNAL THUNDER'. AMONGST OTHER THINGS, WE ENCOURAGED A SUCCESSFUL AUDIENCE INVASION, A TAKE-AWAY CURRY WAS DELIVERED MID FLOW ON THE SECOND NIGHT, AND IN A GLADITORIAL ANTI CLIMAX WE BOTH WOUND UP PLAYING DEAD.
